The problem with most AI cover letters
Generic AI writing tools are optimised to sound convincing, and the fastest way to sound convincing is to claim things. A “proven track record of leading cross-functional teams” you never led, a certification you do not hold, a percentage nobody measured. Recruiters notice, interviews expose it, and in the worst case it is simply untrue on a document you signed.
A cover letter has one job: connect what this employer asks for with evidence from your own career. That only works if every claim in it is yours — which is why JobWin works on your letter instead of writing one for you from nothing.
Four actions, one rule
Open a cover letter in your documents and choose what the AI should do with it:
- Improve — clearer wording, better grammar, a more professional tone. The facts stay exactly as you wrote them.
- Rewrite — fresh phrasing and structure for a letter that has started to sound stale, with every fact preserved.
- Translate — the same letter in English or German, formatting and facts unchanged.
- Tailor to a job — your letter rewritten against a specific posting from your pipeline, using only facts from your letter, profile and CV.
How JobWin keeps the letter honest
The rule is built into each action, not left to a prompt and good luck. Improve, Rewrite and Translate are told to change wording and never add an employer, skill, date or number. Tailor is given the posting, your profile and your letter, and may only use facts from your profile and letter — the posting decides what to emphasise, not what you claim.
Every result is then checked against your own data. If a new version contains something that cannot be found there, it is marked as not verified, so you review it before you use it. Your original letter is never overwritten: each result is a separate version you can compare, keep or delete.
Tailoring: your letter, pointed at this job
Tailoring takes a letter you already have and a job you have saved, and leads with the requirements that employer actually states and the parts of your experience that answer them. The tailored letter is a new version — you can edit it, improve it again or translate it, and the same no-invention rule applies to every step.
English and German — including the German Anschreiben
Your letters can be in English or German, and Translate converts a letter between the two. German applications still often expect an Anschreiben with its own conventions — formal address, a clear subject line, one page. If you apply in Germany, read our guide to when the Anschreiben still matters before you write one at all; for many roles it no longer does.
What the browser extension does with cover letters
The extension does not use AI for cover letters. When an application form has a cover-letter text field, it fills in your saved cover-letter template — the default one, or the one you picked for that job — with the company, job title, location and date of the job you are applying to. Any sentence that still contains a placeholder only you can fill is left out rather than guessed. You see the result in the form before you send anything.
What it will not do
It will not write a letter from nothing, it will not fill your gaps with flattering inventions, and it will not send anything. You read every version before you use it, and you can edit it freely.
